சூரிய வானூர்தி.

சூரிய சக்தி முலம் இயங்கும் முதலாவது சர்வதேச விமானம் தனது பயணத்தை மே 13 அன்று ஆரம்பித்து வெற்றிகரமாக நிறைவு செய்துள்ளது. விமானம் தனது பயணத்தை சுவிஸ்லாந்தின் PAYERNE விமான நிலையத்தில் இருந்து புறப்பட்டு பிரான்ஸ் LUXEMBOURG ஆகிய நாடுகளுக்கு மேலாக 12400 அடி உயரத்தில் 12 மணி 59 நிமிடங்கள் பறந்து பெல்ஜியத்தின் BRUSSELS விமான நிலையத்தில் தரையிறங்கியது.

200 அடி நீளமான இந்த விமானத்தில் 12000 சூரிய கலங்கள் பொருத்தப்பட்டு விமானத்துக்கு தேவையான சக்தி வழங்கப்பட்டது. .இதில் பொருத்தப்பட்டுள்ள சூரிய கலங்களில் சேமிக்கப்படும் சக்க்தியைக்கொண்டு இந்த விமானம் 26 மணித்தியாலங்கள் பறக்கும் வல்லமை கொண்டது.



After seven years in the making, the Solar Impulse made its first real flight this morning from an airbase in Switzerland. The solar-powered plane got up to 5,500 ft in altitude and performed test maneuvers in order to see if the plane handled as well as simulations predicted. Everything went perfectly for the first test flight and proved that the plane is capable of taking off and landing. With this important test flight behind them, the Solar Impulse team can push on towards gearing up for their solar powered around-the-world flight in 2012.
